Question by dizzledave186: Help. I’m having problems playing the “Fade to Black” solo by Metallica. I need advice from fellow shredders?
I’m not talking about the beginning of the song (I can’t believe people even call that the solo). I’m talking about the end.
I have a baseline model Ibanez electric and it sucks. The strings are too far away from the fret board so as soon as it gets to the fast part with lots of bending, hammer-ons and pull-offs all happening in a heartbeat, I get sloppy and I can’t even hear the notes… and I’ve been playing for about seven years too so it’s not like I suck or anything. Should I get a new guitar?
Any advice from good shredders (especially those who can play this solo) will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I would get a new guitar, but that’s not the problem. Lower the bridge so the strings are closer, and then you can have a faster action. You may be trying to hit the strings too hard, which causes sloppiness. Relax your finger before playing and hit them lightly but fast. When it comes to hammer on’s and off’s it can begin sounding sloppy, but keep practicing, you will get it!
What do you think? Answer below!
The common small shredder is an electrically powered device.
Paper shredders are categorized according to the size and shape of the strips they produce.

I needed a shredder that could work en Masse. This thing is a POWERHOUSE. It shreds fast and works hard. I wish it cross-shredded though, but it does make completely cut small peices. I am very happy

NOTE: Those of you looking for a cross-cut shredder should look elsewhere. The SB-80 is a strip-cut (long skinny pieces) so if you have identity-theft concerns or need your documents absolutely destroyed, seek other shredders. If you want a strong, quiet, 18 sheet at-a-time killer of paper, read on…
This thing eats 18 sheets of paper at a time! EIGHTEEEN. It eats credit cards. It eats CDs. Paper clips? Ha. This machine doesn’t even break a sweat. Staples? Pffft. Not a problem. Those junk mail credit card offers you get in the mail? Feed the entire envelope directly into this shredder.
The SB-80 has a low, throaty rumble when it is running. The volume and pitch didn’t increase as I added more paper either. Just a low rumble as it ate more and more paper. Ballpark decibel rating is 68. It was just loud enough to tell you it’s working.
There are lots of status LEDs on the front panel that tell you exactly what is happening with the SB-80. The trash bin is a good size but I could see it filling up pretty fast. Power cord is about 2ft long.
The unit is on wheels too so it can roll around from room to room.
Unsure how long it will run before overheating. I fed it about 200 sheets before giving up.
Am very happy with this shredder. Should it do cross-cut? Perhaps…but then it might be louder, more expensive, or have less-capacity (fewer sheets at a time).

I looked for a decent shredder at an affordable price for weeks. We burned ours out shredding end of the year data. So far this one has not let us down. I have a commercial account, (supposedly get great discounts), with Office Depot. The price from Amazon beat them by $125.00. Needless to say, I didn’t make friends with OD when I told my account manager. I will continue to do business with Amazon, they have always given the best price and great quality.

I got this one to replace another about 5 years old. They do wear out.
The SB-80 is very powerful and takes 17 pages at a gulp, just as promised. The pull-out bin is very nice too–we don’t need any bags, just take out the bin and reverse it into a big lawn trash bag.
Negatives:
It’s very noisy
It doesn’t cross-cut, so it spews out long strips of 1/4″ wide paper. This has two drawbacks: the bin fills up faster, as the strips turn into big springs pushing up from the bottom, and of course there’s not as much security as there would be with a crosscut machine that creates little chads. I wish I had noticed this drawback, as I probably would have paid a bit more to get a machine that did crosscuts.
try this…..

Personally, I use the software Guitar Pro. You can D/L a tab from nutabs.com and then use the software to slow down the part you want to play along with.
Oh, man.
It’s not hard. It just takes a bit of practice.
Try working on one part at a time, not the whole song at once. Work on each bit at a time until you get that bit perfect. Then move on to the next bit. That’s how I learn the songs I play.
Also if you’re having trouble- watch how some people play it on youtube. But use that as a last resort, because ALOT of people are off beat.
if you take time and learn scales, learning solos for song will be easier. and lower your strings…. learn aeolian mode= know solo.
